Job Description
Pump Aid Beyond Water is a WASH based organization which promote access to clean water to marginalized communities, its goal is to improve water point functionality of all hand pumps through unique repair and maintenance system that promote ownership to the community. Currently we are working in Mchinji, Kasungu, Dowa, Mangochi, Zomba, Chikwawa, Mulanje, Phalombe, and Nsanje.
Main Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible to identify and assess the key needs of WASH facilities and services to engage and develop an appropriate implementation strategy to repair and Maintain hand pumps at water points.
Program
Work with Area mechanics and well diggers to design and identify repair and maintenance of all hand pumps in the community.
Design and plan activities on construction/rehabilitation and repair of water supply and sanitation and ensure timely implementation.
Facilitate service level agreements between area mechanics and water point committees with guidance from the district council.
Supervise repair and rehabilitation of water and sanitation facilities in line with Malawi Government guidelines and policies.
Liaise with the communication officer in production of case studies and project documentaries.
Support assessments and assist in proposal development for additional resources for water supply, sanitation and hygiene interventions
Any other relevant responsibility as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
M&E and Reporting
Write monthly, quarterly, semi- annual reports and assist M&E officer on data collection.
Conduct periodical reviews, monitoring and evaluation of repair and maintenance in line with project indicators and standards.
Provide regular reports on water supply and sanitation activities and program progress against work plan and program activities including donor reports according to donor requirements
Coordination and Collaboration
Co-ordinate and network with Beyond Water District Sales representatives, sales agents and other relevant stakeholders, Community based organizations in providing water services to the communities.
Liaise directly with communities, and community structures on repair and maintenance of hand pumps of water supply and sanitation issues
Represent the organization at the district level by attending district coordinating team meetings, district executive meetings and other relevant meetings.
Qualifications
Degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Community Development, Water Resources Management, Civil Engineering or related field.
A minimum of three years’ experience in water point repair and maintenance systems.
Ability to ride a motorbike and possession of motorbike license will be an added advantage.
Required Experience & Competencies
Strong skills in managing of water supply and sanitation facilities.
Experience in community engagement approaches, participatory approaches and community negotiation
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with a team
