Training and Research Unit of Excellence (TRUE) would like to recruit suitably qualified and highly motivated individuals for the undermentioned positions for the upcoming Malaria Project to be implemented in Neno, Salima and Ntchisi districts. The appointments will be on a fixed-term basis of one year, which may be renewed depending on performance and availability of funds.
LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (1 POST, to be based in Blantyre but supporting Neno, Salima & Ntchisi)
Job Summary
To provide oversite of community point of care testing procedures and conduct laboratory tests appropriate to the study as designated by the site coordinator and scientific leader. Preparation of specimens for testing, storage, shipping, documentation and record keeping.
Duties and Responsibilities
To provide supervision of community-based point of care testing procedures and biohazard containment and disposal.
To carry out laboratory tests in accordance with research protocols (SOPs) as set out by the PI.
To be aware of, and work using the Quality Control protocols, both internal and external where appropriate set by the PI
To keep both paper and electronic records where appropriate.
To prepare and store specimens according to set protocols.
To monitor equipment at regular intervals according to set protocols where appropriate.
To be responsible for the handling of laboratory spillages according to the spillage SOPs.
To check stocks and report stock levels to the appropriate member of staff.
To work within the Health and Safety protocols of the department.
To carry out any other duty deemed to be reasonable, assigned by the scientific leader, Lab manager and the PI
Qualifications:
Should possess a diploma in Laboratory Sciences.
Be registered with the Medical Council of Malawi with a valid license to practice.
Have at least two years of experience in a research laboratory.
Those with additional malaria microscopy training and a certificate of Good Clinical Practice have an added advantage.
