The Agricultural Research and Extension Trust (ARET) is Malawi’s premier institution in tobacco research, extension and training services. Established in 1995 and funded primarily by tobacco growers, ARET’s core activities include development and dissemination of tobacco technologies and training of stakeholders in order to sustain and improve tobacco productivity while conserving the natural resources.

Post: Financial Accountant
The position requires someone who is highly motivated and experienced at working in diverse, fast-paced environment to play a critical role in providing financial guidance and support to the College. The
incumbent will lead the finance and accounting team in analysing the economic stability of the College and provide financial information to other departments.
Tenable at: Mwimba College of Agriculture, Kasungu.
Key Function
Working collaboratively as part of a team of accounting, academic, and administrative colleagues, the incumbent will be required to prepare monthly statements by collecting data, analyzing and investigating variances and summarizing data trends.
Duties
Reporting to the Principal, the incumbent will among other duties perform the following:
Prepare and examine financial records, assuring information is up to date and accurate.
Analyze, reconcile, balance, and maintain accounting records to develop special financial reports.
Monitor revenue and expenses for the College to ensure that expenditure control is in compliance with proper and applicable accounting procedures.
Coordinate the preparation of regularly scheduled and special billings, costs reports, analyses, inventories, and preliminary financial statements for funding sources.
Review and approve expenditure and procurement documents for availability of funding, completeness and accuracy of documents, and compliance with approved accounting policies.
Provide assistance to departments and individuals in interpreting reports, accounting procedures, controls and in resolving associated problems.
Ensure that farm operations are conducted efficiently and cost-effectively.
Manage Accounts receivables and accounts payables.
Keep a daily back up of accounting data.
Supervise the work of the Finance and Accounts Section staff by ensuring that they complete tasks assigned to them on time.
Coordinate preparation of the annual budget for the College.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor of Accountancy Degree from a recognized University.
Must be a member of ICAM.
Five years practical work experience in a busy accounting office.
