Malawi Blood Transfusion Service (MBTS) is a Trust that that was established to provide a safe and adequate supply of blood and blood products to meet the needs of all patients in authorised hospitals in Malawi. It is committed to meet its objective of collecting, processing and testing all blood from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors in low-risk populations to international standards, in a cost efficient manner
The MBTS is seeking a suitable candidate to fill the post of Accounts Assistant tenable at its O’dala Centre in Blantyre.
Job summary
To provide quality financial accounting support
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
• Diploma in Accounting
• Computer literacy including accounting package preferably Sage 100
• Having worked in a similar position for at least three years
Description of Tasks:
Petty cash management
1. Disbursing petty cash upon requisition authorisation
2. Collecting receipts for all petty cash disbursed
3. Replenishing petty cash when due
4. Stamping ‘paid’ all paid petty cash vouchers
5. Reconciling of petty cash control account.
Donor refund management
1. Replenishing donor transport refunds
2. Reconciling donor transport refunds control account
Stores management
1. Issuing and receiving inventories in the stores /sage 300
2. Updating bin cards
3. Identifying obsolete (expired) and damaged stocks
4. Preparing monthly stock report showing opening stock, receipts, issues and closing stock
5. Costing all stock items still in stock
6. Must establish and give details of possible reorder requirements
Maintain Filed Assets Register
1. Update and maintain fixed assets register for the centre in liaison with the Head Office.
2. Label all fixed assets, well traceable to the register in terms of values and location.
3. Recommend for disposal of old, damaged assets
Financial accounting
1. Disbursing funds for centre activities.
2. Issuing receipts for all activities of the centre
3. Reconciling expenditures with receipts to payment vouchers
4. Banking caskcheques for the centre
General
1. Safeguarding assets of the organisation
2. Reads and complies with all relevant policies and SOPs and signs that these have been understood.
3. Complies with all relevant aspects of the Quality management System.
4. Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
