Candlex is a leading producer of a range of personal and home care products which are marketed across Malawi under various well-known brands including Ufresh, Butex and Body Care. A Vacancy for a Procurement Manager has arisen at our manufacturing operation located in Blantyre. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the position calls for an experienced individual, who will develop and implement systems and procedures aimed at ensuring a competitive advantage in procurement in terms of cost, service level and adherence to specification for all incoming goods and services.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct a procurement analysis of the goods and services that our company requires. Model these goods and services into different procurement catagories and set appropriate strategies to procure each catagories items in the most competitive manner.
Based on the procurement analysis determine potential vendors who can supply each category of goods. Maintain an up to date register of potential vendors per procurement category.
Be fully versed in company policies in respect of procurement including Procurement Systems (Purchase Order’s, GRV’s, Supplier Delivery Notes, Credit Notes, Supplier Statements, Supplier Invoices) and company policies in respect of payment terms.
Develop a supplier data base of suppliers able to supply the required goods and services to Candlex. Develop strong relationships with suppliers.
In terms of prime costs (Direct Spend) participate in a Sales& Operational Planning system whereby the Master Production Plan (MPS) generates a Material Requirements Plan (MRP). Manage the MRP based on existing stock levels and place orders against suppliers to meet the MRP.
Where appropriate develop stock holding models and policies clearly identifying re-order levels in order to deliver the required service levels to internal customers.
Manage a raw materials/packaging store whereby all goods are checked, received warehoused, and dispatched to production in such a way that all administrative and good housekeeping practices are met.
In terms of non-stock items receive approved requisitions from authorized managers to procure these items. Ensure items are purchased at best prices to meet the requirement and issue the item to the authorized manager on receipt of the item from the supplier.
Participate in the Costing Meeting Cycles by providing estimates on any price variances expected in coming months.
Manage all administration associated with both local and imported goods and services including order tracking, and appropriate follow ups with both suppliers and agents to ensure that goods are received timeously.
Required Qualifications and Skills
A formal qualification at University Level, preferably in Accountancy/Finance or Engineering
Ability to communicate (read, write and speak) English, and preferably Chichewa.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in FMCG, Procurement.
Ability to work and contribute as part of a cross functional business team to deliver strategic goals.
Cross Functional Business knowledge in Finance, Production, HR.
Computer knowledge in excel, word and emails
