Local ICT Firm Shortlisted in Continental Showpiece

Local Information Communications Technology (ICT) company, Angle Dimension, is set to represent the country in Rwanda’s Smart Cities Innovation Programme (SCIP).

Under the programme, organised by the Rwanda Ministry of ICT and Innovation and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), SCIP is a six-month accelerator which is aimed at supporting technology start-ups with high potential.

The program targets start-ups from Rwanda and other African countries which are operating in the fields of Smart Mobility, Smart Housing and Financial Technology sectors.

Angle Dimension emerged as one of 31 start-up companies in Africa, out of over 300 applicants, to be selected to pitch on topics circled around the aforementioned sectors.

The company’s chief technology officer Henry Sauzande said the start-up seeks to identify investors through the platform.

“For us there are a number of objectives we want to achieve. We will receive world-class training from different mentors across the international space. But this is also an opportunity to establish partnership and expand beyond the Malawi market. This can be in the form of investment and creating strategic partnerships within various countries,” Sauzande said.

Vice President of the ICT Association of Malawi (Ictam) Andrew Kasasi said having skills obtained from such platforms is a big gain for Malawi.

“The Malawi government should also borrow a page that they can initiate similar programmes within the nation or work hand in hand with Ictam to boost the local innovators and also invite international innovators so that Malawian ICT innovators can learn from others.

“It is with great pleasure that Malawian innovators or startups are being recognised out there, hence I encourage all ICT players, startups and individuals to aim higher and compete at international level and enroll any possible opportunities which, by the end of the day, will benefit Malawians and support Malawi 2063 goals,” Kasasi said.

Sauzande will travel to Rwanda on November 20, when he will complete the programme.
