In Malawi, MSF works in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the local community in integrated HIV/AIDS in Chiradzulu District and Cervical Cancer projects Blantyre districts.

Position: MIDWIFE (SW/CBO) – 1 POSITION
Workplace : Chiradzulu
Type of contract : 6 months Fixed term contract with possible extension
Start date : Immediate
Main purpose of the position
Support medical part of peer-led services delivery by sex workers community-based organizations in Dedza and Zalewa.
Support CZ project in implementing similar services sharing the experience of Dedza and Zalewa.
Main responsibilities
Ensuring the implementation and continuity of access to family planning, post exposure prophylaxis, management of Sexually Transmitted Infections, comprehensive abortion care, management of victims of sexual violence in accordance with MSF or Ministry of Healthy (MoH) Reproductive Core Package of Activities and reinforce the implementation of standardized protocols.
Ensuring hygiene and sterilization criteria (including universal precautions) are met according to MSF/MOH specifications.
Performing cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Following the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
Guaranteeing a regular and ongoing supply of drugs for activities supported by MSF and equipment required for activities (including monitoring/consumption control/ordering of orders)
informing mothers and relatives about importance of breast feeding, vaccination and possible complications resulting from harmful traditional practices.
Ensuring patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality is respected
Context Specific Accountabilities
Support SW CBO’s in Dedza and Zalewa on medical aspects of their activity in close collaboration with existing services at MoH level.
Support the CBO’s in updating the content of their sensitization/health education from a medical point of view
Ensure availability of drugs to start Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) when appropriate
Ensure proper access of SW to MoH facilities to get proper management of Sexually Transmitted Infections, PMTCT and ensure a buffer of key tests (syphilis SDBioline/HBV Ag HbS tests, pregnancy test, HIV testing…) and drugs when gaps at MoH level.
Ensure timely access of MoH facility by SWs to pursue PEP when indicated
Ensure timely access of MoH facility by SW when needed to ensure medical management when victim of sexual violence
Ensure access to Safe Abortion Care for the women in need
Support implementation of access to Pre Exposure Prophylaxis following current national protocol. Support implementation of potential innovative strategies within OR or pilot project.
Ensure effective access to cervical cancer screening
Ensure proper data- collection, monitoring and evaluation of the activity. Monthly reporting and quarterly reporting. If needed, support CBO’s with trainings on basic use of computer software (excel) to involve them in data collection and monitoring.
Support CZ project according to the needs, ensuring experience sharing between different sites and access to key populations.
Requirements
Education:
Essential midwifery qualification or specialization. Desired Bachelor in Midwifery
Experience:
Essential working experience of at least two years in midwife activities related jobs.
Desirable experience in HIV/TB program and/or Family Planning Program
Desirable experience with adolescents girls and young women
Desirable experience with post abortion care and incomplete abortion care
Desirable working experience with education regarding Sexual and reproductive Health and Rights.
